Our LED stair lighting systems deliver smooth, even illumination across every step with no visible LED dots and no discomfort glare, ensuring both safety and visual comfort for anyone using the staircase.
Every system uses aluminum housings with diffusers to eliminate the appearance of individual LEDs, creating a clean, continuous lighting effect that enhances the architectural character of the staircase.
Excellent heat dispersion through aluminum channel construction extends LED life to approximately 50,000 hours, significantly reducing the frequency of replacements and maintenance requirements.
Every Diana Lighting stair system is compatible with an unlimited number of motion sensors. The system dims up or activates when motion is detected and dims back down when motion has ceased, eliminating unnecessary energy consumption when the staircase is unoccupied.
All systems are dimmable using ELV-compatible dimming controls. Dimming can also be managed through motion sensors, timer switches, or smart home control platforms.
Every stair lighting system is manufactured to your exact specifications using aluminum profiles and 3D printing capabilities developed specifically for custom LED production. Available in multiple finishes, trims, and colour temperatures.
Every system arrives pre-wired, factory tested, and accompanied by customized installation instructions. All stair lighting installations require a licensed electrician for safe wiring.

LED stair lighting improves safety and elevates the aesthetic quality of any residential staircase. By illuminating each tread, the grain, texture, and colour of wooden steps are highlighted, giving the staircase a refined, finished appearance. Our systems are suitable for open riser, closed riser, floating, and mono-beam staircase designs in homes of any style.
Our LED stair lighting systems are designed for indoor stair lighting applications in stairwells, hallways, and other spaces where safe, visually appealing illumination at floor level is required. The system functions independently with motion sensors to provide illumination precisely when and where it is needed, without wasting energy when the space is unoccupied.
Colour temperature plays a critical role in the appearance of a staircase and how well it integrates with the surrounding interior. The style and placement of luminaires must also be in harmony with the broader design context of the space. Diana Lighting works with homeowners, designers, and stair manufacturers at the design stage to specify the right system for each specific application.
Colour temperature comes down to preference and design intent. Warm white gives a softer, relaxed feel; cool white reads crisper and brighter. A full range of colour temperatures, including tunable white, lets the staircase match its setting. Diana Lighting works with homeowners, designers, and stair manufacturers at the design stage to specify the right system for each application.
Diana Lighting specifies IP67-rated components for outdoor stair lighting, sealed against dust and protected against water immersion.
Outdoor stair lighting is a functional component of both landscape and architectural design, addressing the reduced ambient light levels and greater exposure to hazards that outdoor spaces present compared to interior environments. Outdoor stairs are also more exposed to the elements and more likely to present tripping hazards. Diana Lighting specifies outdoor-rated components for all outdoor stair lighting projects.
Outdoor stair types including those found on wooden decks, concrete steps, and patio installations present different wiring and installation constraints than indoor applications. Most commonly, outdoor stair lighting is integrated into the design of the architectural or landscaping project from the planning stage. Diana Lighting works with architects, landscape designers, and contractors to specify the right outdoor stair lighting system for each application.
The most popular installation method. Each step is illuminated by LED strip lighting installed in a groove under the nosing of the step above, projecting light onto the step below. Custom linear LED lengths are manufactured to the exact dimension of each step.
Note: Riser installation is possible. The luminaire profile must direct light downward onto the step below rather than straight out parallel to the step, which would otherwise project light toward the eyes of anyone ascending the stairs and create discomfort glare.
Where a wall runs along either side of the staircase, LED step lights or puck lights can be recessed into the wall to illuminate each step from the side. This method is more suitable for retrofit applications as it does not require alteration of the stairs themselves. Wiring is routed through the inside of the wall.
Where the handrail design allows, a linear LED strip can be inserted into a groove running at the bottom of the handrail. Wiring is routed through hollow brackets and into the adjacent structures.
The least invasive option, requiring no alterations to the stairs or sidewalls. Suitable for staircases where ceiling height allows for effective illumination of all treads and landings. Options include adjustable gimbal pot lights and track lighting.
Wiring method depends on the installation type chosen. For nosing-recessed installation, wiring can be run through the inside of hollow stairs or through an adjacent wall. For floating stairs, wiring can be run through the wall and out into each step. Diana Lighting specifies the appropriate LED driver, power supply, and wiring route for each system before manufacturing begins, and delivers the complete system pre-wired and ready to connect.
Diana Lighting stair systems accommodate an unlimited number of motion sensors and can function independently to increase safety. When motion is detected the lighting dims up or activates. When motion has ceased the lighting dims down or deactivates. Multi-point motion control with sensors at both the top and bottom of the staircase is available and recommended for most residential and commercial applications.
All Diana Lighting stair systems are dimmable using ELV compatible dimming controls. In spaces where additional light sources are present, including natural light from windows, dimming allows the stair lighting to be tuned to the conditions at different times of day.
Diana Lighting stair systems connect to the smart home and building automation platforms already in use. Integration with occupancy sensors, automated schedules, and remote dimming controls is available and pre-wired into the system before delivery.
Our recommendation for staircases: combine stair lighting with ceiling lighting, both controlled by motion sensors. When motion is detected, the ceiling lighting activates while the stair lighting dims up. When no presence is detected, the ceiling lighting turns off while the stair lighting dims down to a low ambient level.
Diana Lighting stair systems are available in multiple aluminum profile types, finishes, and trims to suit any staircase design and installation method. A wide selection of profiles is available for unique architectural applications.

Learn More (Coming Soon)Yes. Poorly lit staircases are a documented factor in slip and fall accidents across both residential and commercial settings. Adequate illumination of each tread, riser, and landing significantly reduces the risk of misstep, particularly in low ambient light conditions. For commercial building owners, a correctly lit staircase directly reduces the legal and financial risk that comes with preventable falls.
LED stair lighting improves safety by increasing visibility at floor level. It highlights the finish and texture of each step, enhancing the aesthetic quality of the staircase. LED technology provides superior energy efficiency compared to incandescent or halogen sources, with a lifespan of approximately 50,000 hours at correct thermal management. Motion sensor control further reduces energy consumption by activating only when the staircase is in use.
Diana Lighting manufactures stair lighting systems for nosing-recessed, wall-recessed, handrail-integrated, and ceiling-mounted installations. Systems are available in any colour temperature across the CCT spectrum, tunable white, and RGB configurations, in multiple finishes and trim options, manufactured to the exact dimensions of each step.
The key factors are the structural design of the staircase, the available wiring routes, the ambient light conditions of the space, the client's colour temperature preference, and whether dimming or motion sensor control is required. Diana Lighting assesses all of these during the consultation process and specifies the most appropriate system for the application.
Stair lighting should provide sufficient illumination to clearly define each tread and riser without causing glare. The appropriate lumen output depends on the ambient light conditions of the space, the reflectance of the stair materials, and the height and spacing of the fixtures. Lumen output is calculated for each project against the specific ambient light conditions, stair material reflectance, and fixture spacing of that installation.
Colour temperature comes down to preference and the design intent of the space. Warm tones suit interiors where a softer feel is wanted; cooler tones are often preferred where crisp, bright visibility matters, such as commercial stairwells. Diana Lighting specifies colour temperature during consultation based on the application and the client's design intent.
Dimming is recommended for most stair lighting applications, particularly in spaces where other light sources are present or where the staircase is used at different times of day. All Diana Lighting stair lighting systems are compatible with ELV dimming controls. Dimming functionality is pre-configured into the system before delivery.
Diana Lighting stair systems are compatible with motion sensors, timer switches, ELV dimmers, and smart home automation platforms. The most effective configuration for most applications combines motion-activated control with dimming so the lighting responds to occupancy while maintaining a low ambient level when the staircase is unoccupied.
Diana Lighting delivers every stair lighting system as preassembled lighting modules, with the LED strip already mounted inside the aluminium profile, pre-wired and supplied with the correct drivers for the electrician to install on site. Motion sensors are included where specified. Customized installation instructions are supplied with every project. Professional installation by a certified electrician is required.
Yes. LED technology converts the vast majority of its energy draw into usable light output with minimal thermal waste. Diana Lighting stair systems achieve a rated lifespan of approximately 50,000 hours through aluminium channel construction that manages heat effectively. Every system is factory tested for 48 hours of continuous operation before shipment and backed by a two-year manufacturer warranty.
All electrical components used in outdoor LED stair lighting systems must be rated for outdoor use, including the LED strip, driver, housing, and connectors.
